Occupational Therapist's Report on KikaFlik

KikaFlik was tested by an Occupational Therapist working for the Greater Glasgow Health Board in the OT department of Knightswood Hospital. The following report details the normal functions required to perform the activity of using KikaFlik:

MOTOR FUNCTIONS

Range of motion/movement produced by muscles of the shoulder girdle and pelvic girdle

Gross muscle strength e.g. Biceps Brachii and Triceps Brachii of the forearm

Muscle tone (necessary to allow balance and weight transfer)

Gross and Fine motor skills e.g. Spherical grip of ball or holding bat

SENSORY-INTEGRATIVE FUNCTIONING

Body schema (the postural image one has of oneself i.e. the mental image you have of your body and the relationship of body parts)

Posture

Body Integration e.g. Hand eye co-ordination

Visual-spatial Relationship e.g. to catch the ball

Sensory-Motor integration i.e. visual, auditory and tactile

Reflex and Sensory

COGNITIVE FUNCTIONING

Comprehension e.g. Instructions for use

Verbal Communication (particularly if team games)

Concentration

Problem Solving and Organizational Skills

Time Management i.e. timing and sequencing

Conceptualizations

Integration of learning e.g. rhythm could be developed using more than one ball

PSYCHOLOGICAL FUNCTIONING

Emotional states and feelings (particularly if played as a team game)

Coping behaviors (particularly if played as a team game)

Self identity and Self Concept (particularly if played as a team game)

Motivation (particularly if played as a team game)

SOCIAL FUNCTIONING

Dyadic Interaction (one-to-one)

Group Interaction (effective social skills) Co-operation, Sharing, Tolerance

Fostering team spirit, element of competition
